Where do frum singles live in NY besides the city?

I've been thinking about moving out of my house for some time now, rather out of Flatbush. But every time I contemplate the move, I realize my options are limited. The obvious neighborhood to move to when one is still single post college would be the Upper West Side. But I don’t think I'm going to be moving there any time soon, because I think that the people there really suck. The next place would be Washington Heights. Then again, I’m not a YU guy and probably would feel out of place there. I also heard it’s very cliquey there. Is that is all? Only two places?

The only places I would love to move to locally would be Williamsburg (not the Chasidic part) and Park Slope. There is something about those places that really lure me. Maybe it’s because the grungy look or the ‘I don’t care what I wear’ look they give off, as opposed to the West Side always dressed to impress and their snotty attitude. If only there was a small Jewish singles scene in those two Brooklyn places who have that same chilled out outlook in life. I can overlook their liberal political outlook. The rent is another issue. Every Jewish singles area is so expensive, but I think Brooklyn is a drop less expensive, but I’m sure it's still ridiculously pricey. What's a simple frum Jewish single guy to do?

girls dont really live alone out of flatbush so even if u went, would there be other singles there anyway? cuz if not then dont bother searching too hard for a particular area- wait roommates...but then their usually out of towners, idk stay in flatbush! there are normal ppl too.

I think you should always look decent and handsome at all times, even if let's say you live in a rat hole. I say stay in Flatbush and stop paying too much attention to jerks around you. There are jerks all around the world wherever you go. Just be happy.

i agree with rebelwithoutacause.
i think you should just be happy. what have you got to lose.
plus, if you can get yourself a sledgehammer and carry it around flatbush with you, that may actually make you happy. I know it would make me happy. btw NSF. your blog is really cool. please keep the posts coming.

This post has nothing to do with being happy or upset, but rather a place where I would fit in. I think I would fit in an atmosphere where everyone is not trying to impress everyone else. Not that it makes be unhappy to live in such a place, but a place where I have more in commmon with the people there. Life in flatbush is ok, but there is no area of it where its dominated by singles, its all spread out amongst the familes with thousands of kiddies. If there was a 2 or 3 block area of just singles - that would be awesome.

hey nsf
i have never actually written on your blog before and i reallt dont even know who you are.
and i totally agree with you. but i have resigned myself to the possibility of never finding such a place. i can just see myself moving into a great neighborhood, only to be followed by the same people i tried to avoid. ( they are not following me by the way, the just happened to find out about a great neighborhood and moved in). so who gives a crap. i also agree with the previous anonynous post regarding the sledghammer. thats real cool.
p.s. i am not that person

I say room in williamsburg by some hassid and claim you are just another one of his kids that he hasn't seen in a while. If he doesn't realize you are the only one of his kids without payos just move in and walk a few blocks to the cool williamsberg.

jenn- rent in the UWS is also really expensive, maybe even more expensive, yet theres plenty of frum people living there.
RYS- lol - i can grow some payos for some free rent. ALthough the 30 year old married chasid guy with 10 kids under the age may think something when some one a few years younger than him is his son.

jacob- ya that was a bit of a rash statement just becuz i dont know anyone who does doesnt mean its non-existant but i figured he seemed like someone going for a certain type with whom it wasnt as common to live alone in parkslope or where ever but yeah i guess i dont know him all that well anyway.
