Boro Parkers are holier than Flatbush people

I found this sort of obnoxious. While waiting in line at Bagel Hole, a Chasidic Boro Parker looking lady comes inside and begins questioning the worker of what the Kashrus is. Now, all I can think when she asked this; who the hell does she think she is asking such a reputable kosher place what their kashrush is. The entire Flatbush eats there; almost every bris I’ve been too was done by them. Does she really think it’s not kosher? This isn’t some rarely used kosher establishment which is some times questionable in some place in middle of no where. This is frigin Bagel Hole on Coney Island Ave, the best bagels in Brooklyn I may add, but extremely trust worthy. Is she holier than though? Is she better than me or anyone else who never asked bagel hole or any other popular kosher Flatbush joint whether they are kosher or not?

Maybe being from Boro Park, she was taught never to trust anyone or anyone ‘below’ her like the Flatbush people. This is almost as bad as the person who goes to Bar Mitzvahs and weddings of frum people and start questioning the People making the event what the kashrus is. I find that to be very chutzpadik, It’s like they don’t trust the people making the event. One has to trust people like themselves and not make believe your so much better and frummer than everyone else because you asked what the hashgacha is.

There are machmir people then there are psycho people. I think she falls under the psycho category.

there are much better examples of their holier than thou attitude, its all in their head to toe stare i feel and when they work in stores they refuse to answer nicely like wuts up with that

I've been at presumbly frum weddings where the Kashrus left a LOT to be desired

First of all- how do you know she was from Boro Park? Maybe she was a chasid from Montreal or Monroe and had no idea what the hechsher was. If people do not question the kasharus- the kasharus agencies will inevitably slacken.

My friend asked the mashgiach temidi in Subway- on ave J a technical question that ALL mashgichim should know and he had NO IDEA what she was talking about. Of course she walked out without eating and had a chat with the head of the hechsher that Subway was under.

Assuming will get you nowhere.

Though based on looks alone Boro Parkers are way holier then flatbush folks. Besides their eruv - they wear much more black a key thing when being frummer. Blacker you are the frummer you are.

you all right, there are many more 'holier than though' examples out there. For example like frum satire mentioned about wearing all black etc. But that makes it easier for me to locate where they are from and then make fun of them. I dont often see a regular person in flatbush garb start asking bagel hole what their hechsher is. If everyone went with your 'done assume anything' you'll 50 people in there all hocking up the workers for the kashrus papers and scare everone away thinking that the place was questionable.

It actually depends on what kashrus agency is giving the hechsher. A lot of boro park places are under hashgochas that (of course chassidish) that make the vaad of flatbush look like the ou. There are more inferior hashgochas in boro park than there are in flatbush.

Right, so she was a mongoloid who could not read the kosher certification?

Give me some tissues. What a touching holier than thou story. I had tears in my eyes. These holier than thou stories bore me. People who are going to eat in a store know better than the rabbis who supervise? The problems in the frum communities come up cause there are like 15 official rabbis and there are thousands of people (wannabe rabbis) who think they know better than the rabbis. Sheesh.

Assuming will get you nowhere.

Right. It got her nowhere either. She only looked like a fanatic weirdo who went on a rampage.

Right gotta love the "I am holier than thou" show. Who are these people fooling? Definitely not G-d. You don't become frummer if you dress frummish but if you do what a frum person should do as mitzwot.

Not So Frummy,

Guess where 90% of the ashkenazim in Flatbush came from ?? BORO PARK !!

if no one would ask who the hechsher is the stores would stop having them

I made a party last year and it was catered from a Glatt Kosher establishment in Northern NJ. My relatives from Flatbush and Lakewood did not eat, (they could have told me and not make me spend a tun of $$ on them and their too frum families).

maybe everyone should carry a card. On the card should have a list of hechsherim that they keep. When they enter a restaurant, they slide in the card if it is ma'tim then the card is accepted. If not the the machine spits out the card and the person can not order. LOL

Hey, maybe these cards can also be hung near the mezuzahs of homes, that way when coming to someone 's house one need not reject every attempt at hospitality (foodwise) because one can see what hechsherim are kept in that house already.

just a thought.

Miriam - LOL great idea.

As i was walking down Ave J this morning, i noticed that Bagel hole and most or all of the kosher establishments has a copy of the hechsher on display on the front window before you walk in. So - instead of showing off your frumkeit take a look before entering the store if you think its not kosher. Another point i would like to make, if a store looses their hechsher and people are worried that they wont know. I am pretty sure the mashgiach or whatever is not going to keep this information to himself, im sure he will tell tell the local rabbis and they will inform the rest of the community.
