'out of towner' date recap

Ok, So I'm a little new with going out with girls from outside of the NYC area. Although, i always wanted to go out with them, as they are know to be a lot more normal than the local girls Ive been going out with since the beginning of dating, but i was never sure exactly how they are suppose to work. So, this weekend i finally went out with a girl from 3 1/2 hrs out of NY (gonna try and be as vague as I try not to reveal too much detail). What is good about this, is that the girl was so kind to come in for a really quick weekend trip with 1 available night for a date, but she claims she was here to visit some relatives. Regardless, i would never travel more than an hour for a date.
Now, I went into this date with this frame of mind, as i am sure she did also. This needs to be a really awesome date for this to actually work out. I ain't driving out there while she ain't coming back if its not worth while and chances of that happening isn't all that great. Like an OK date will not suffice. Which was exactly like that. I sure as hell not driving out there, but if she lived locally i would've for sure go out again, but have no idea if that what she was thinking. And i guess I'm not worth another 7 hr drive. Please tell me, how do people who drive in for dates rationalize a need for continuing on for a 2nd or 3rd date and etc.

For exactly the reasons you described, I don't really know anyone who does "out of towner" dates...

The only situation where I could see it making sense is if the guy or the girl already frequently travels to the other's area (and by frequently, I mean 1-2 times a month).

But hey, once you've been set up, it doesn't hurt to go on the date with an open mind. And if the date really is the the best date you've been in in a long time? You try to find a way to make it work for a little.

Due to your rash of commenting on my site- I do like those comments so keep them comming I will let you in on my secrets. I live 2.5 hours from NYC and must travel for dates. Of course Its my choice because as soon as I was able to I got the hell out of NYC and never moved back. So heres how it goes- when I come into NY I make a whole deal of it. I too would never drive more then an hour for a date- but lets say there was a concert, good skatepark, some trails or some good used bookstores/record shops in the girls area (theres always something to do) then it becomesa trip with an excuse. Judging by her distance she either lived in Boston, Baltimore, Scranton, DC or Providence RI. Tons of good stuff to do in those cities- check out pollstar.com for concert listings.

It also depends on what you like to do. In my judgemental fashion most folks from Brooklyn dont do much- they eat pizza, shoot pool, go to malls, movies whatever- they always have that stuff werever you go.

You are lucky the girl came in to see you. I live in a place where the only people who come to visit are Chasidim on their way to Montreal who need to say Kadesh or folks who go skiing upstate- so no girl is comming to see any time soon.

That's why I would stay local unless it was a super exception. It gets too confusing and hard to travel and date so infrquently.
